'YOUR POLICING' - ARRIVING THROUGH YOUR LETTERBOX
Over the next few weeks, Cheshire residents will take delivery of the latest edition of "Your Policing". This edition shows, after listening to the public, the priorities that the Police Authority has set for the Chief Constable, what the Constabulary has been doing in the last year and the work to continue to improve services.
All this information has been squeezed into just eight pages to keep printing and distribution costs as low as possible. The magazine costs just 10p per copy to produce and send out.
Chairman of the Authority, Margaret Ollerenshaw said: "It is our job to work on your behalf to make sure that the Constabulary is performing well, and it is important that we let you know what has been happening.
That is why we produce 'Your Policing'. The publication lets you know how we are spending the money provided through your council tax. As you will see, much progress has been made over the last year and the Constabulary has had a great deal of success."
The last 12 months have been busy for the Authority whose role it is to hold the Chief Constables to account on behalf of local people. The Authority puts the community at the heart of policing. We have continued to work closely with our partners, such as local councils, to ensure that the police service continues to be more efficient and effective. This has delivered results - crime has fallen significantly and public confidence in the police is rising.
Each year we ask Cheshire residents about their policing priorities and listening to what they say about police services. In total, almost 2000 people gave us their views:-
We used these results along with other consultation that we have done throughout the year, the targets set by Government and issues raised with local officers to inform the Chief Constable's objectives for the year which are to:-
- increase public confidence in policing;
- respond effectively to the public when in need;
- prevent and address anti-social behaviour and disorder to maintain safe and strong communities;
- prevent and investigate crime;
- protect vulnerable people;
- protect the public from Serious and Organised Crime and Terrorism; and
- optimise value for money by improving efficiency and reducing costs.
