PCSOs

The Police Authority recently completed a scrutiny of the role of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Cheshire Constabulary.

The Authority has been very supportive of the development of PCSOs and the scrutiny project was commissioned to give the Authority a greater understanding of the way in which they are deployed and utilised.

The following is the formal terms of reference for the PCSO Scrutiny Group:-
"To provide the Authority with a greater understanding of the work of PCSOs with a particular focus on:-

• How they are deployed
• The activities they undertake
• How their performance/successes are measured."

The final report was submitted to the Authority Service improvement Panel on 20 November 2007.
