Stop and Search Scrutiny Group
The Police Authority commissioned a scrutiny group to assess the progress of its activity with regards to its statutory duties for stop/stop and search as outlined in recommendation 63 of the Lawrence report and to make recommendations for future activity.
The following is the formal terms of reference for the Stop and Search Scrutiny Group:-
"To monitor and improve the work of the Authority with respect to its statutory duty to monitor, publicise and assess stop/stop and search"
As a result of the scrutiny the Authority's stop and search publicity campaign has been revitalised and a number of improvements have been made:
- Publicity material has been sent to various organisations including doctors' surgeries, schools and libraries.
- The Stop and Search pages of the Authority website have been updated to include frequently asked questions and more information about stop and search. There are also links to the information in other languages and in audio format. Please click here to view the stop and search pages of this website
The final report was submitted to the Authority Engagement Committee on 13 November 2007. However, much of the publicity, consultation and monitoring work is ongoing.
