The Authority is an independent body responsible for ensuring Cheshire Constabulary delivers an efficient and effective police service.
It is made up of 17 local people including councillors, and members of the public. The Authority ensures that the Constabulary is accountable to the people of Cheshire and ensures that citizens have a say in how they are policed.
The Police Authority is currently considering the results of its public consultation at Roadshows during December and January to help decide the Chief Constable’s policing objectives for 2012/13. We would welcome your comments on the draft policing objectives, which can be viewed by clicking here
"IMPRESSIVE TEAMWORK" ON MOTORWAY SAFETY
Safety checks on lorries using the M6 in Cheshire are a first-class example of inter-agency teamwork, says Cheshire Police Authority.
Five members of the Authority visited the site beside the motorway at Sandbach which is shared by the Cheshire Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, the Highways Agency, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency and Customs Officers.

SPEED COURSE MAKES DRIVERS THINK
The chairman of Cheshire Police Authority says drivers completing speed awareness courses learn “real lessons for the future.”
Margaret Ollerenshaw watched one of the four- hour courses which are offered to selected drivers who are caught speeding on Cheshire’s roads. They are an alternative to a fine and penalty points.

NEXT DEPUTY CHIEF CONSTABLE NAMED
Cheshire Police Authority has appointed Helen King as the next Deputy Chief Constable of Cheshire.
Helen, at present an Assistant Chief Constable with Merseyside Police, will take up her new appointment on 2nd April, when Cheshire’s present Deputy Chief Constable, Graeme Gerrard, retires.

Over the next two months people in Cheshire will be invited to brief the Chief Constable and the members of the Police Authority on the things that matter to them and their communities.
As part of a series of road shows organised by Cheshire Police Authority and Cheshire Constabulary they will be encouraged to give their views on what should be done to meet the spending cuts that follow the reduced funding from the Government.

THE CHESHIRE POLICE AUTHORITY CHAIRMAN MARGARET OLLERENSHAW HELPS TO LAUNCH A NEW "CUTTING EDGE" POLICE TRAINING SYSTEM BY TAKING PART IN A TRAINING EXERCISE
Using projected images and sound systems to generate radio messages and telephone calls the Hydra training facility allows Cheshire Police Officers to experience situations close to real-life, as they tackle incidents and investigations without leaving the classroom.

RESPONSE STILL TOP PRIORITY
Responding to emergency calls should still be the number one priority for Police Officers in Cheshire according to people who took part in a Police Authority survey.
Eighty nine per cent of the responses put the issue at the top of the list. The other "top five" priorities were detecting crime and arresting offenders, tackling violent crime, tackling organised crime and terrorism and targeting drug dealers.

POLICE PLAN TO "ARREST" SOLAR ENERGY
Seven police buildings in Cheshire are to go "green". Cheshire Police Authority has approved the installation of solar panels at all three Cheshire Police custody suites, at three police stations and at the force's Tactical Training Centre in Winsford.

POLICE PERFORMANCE RISES: SPENDING DROPS
Police performance in Chehsire is continuing to improve, despite extensive savings to meet the Coalition Government budget cuts. Members of Cheshire police Authority were told the number of recorded crimes between April and September this year is down more tahn ten per cent on last year's figures; from 33,777 to 30,305.

The Authority is responsible, amongst other matters, for setting the budget for the Constabulary and, following consultation with local communities, mapping out the strategic direction of policing. This includes agreeing policing priorities and setting the Constabulary challenging targets to drive performance higher.
