How to become a member

There are currently no Member vacancies in the Police Authority

The Police Authority has 17 Members, 3 of whom are appointed from Cheshire East Council , 3 from Cheshire West & Chester Council, 2 from Warrington Borough Council and 1 from Halton Borough Council.

The Authority appoints the remaining 8 independent members (one of whom must be a serving magistrate) to serve for a term of four years. Vacancies are advertised widely and the applications received are considered by a Selection Panel of 5 Members, 3 appointed by the Police Authority, 1 by the Home Secretary and the fifth selected from a list of independent assessors.

Once the Selection Panel has considered, and where appropriate, interviewed candidates, the remianing Members of the Authority will interview and appoint the independent member.

Police Authorities will be abolished on 15 November 2012 and Cheshire will have its first elections for a Police and Crime Commissioner. For more information on Police and Crime Commissioners go here.
